Washington, DC (January 20, 2010) - The National Quality Forum (NQF) is seeking nominations for members of the newly established Health Information Technology Advisory Committee (HITAC).
The NQF Board of Directors approved the creation of HITAC in December 2009, charging the body with:
- Developing a strategic plan and providing ongoing guidance for NQF’s HIT portfolio;
- Offering input on HIT projects as they move through certain stages of NQF’s consensus development process, such as the specification of testing requirements for e-measures;
- Reviewing e-specifications for NQF-endorsed and candidate measures; and
- Making recommendations on the endorsement and maintenance of HIT-related consensus standards and the endorsement of candidate standards.
“HIT, if used properly, is a powerful tool for improving the quality of care patients receive,” said Janet Corrigan, NQF president and CEO. “We are working to ensure that electronic health records and personal health records capture the necessary data and are capable of measuring and reporting on quality to drive transformations in care delivery. HITAC members will play a leading role in the integration of HIT and performance measures.”
Nominations for HITAC members will be accepted through February 18, 2010. The full list of nominees will be presented to NQF’s Board of Directors, followed by a public comment period on the final HITAC roster. HITAC members will be eligible to serve two 2-year terms.
