Dr. Peter Pronovost to Address Reduction of ICU Infections in Upcoming Webinar
Washington, DC – Peter Pronovost, MD, PhD, medical director, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, will provide insight on reducing infections in the intensive care unit (ICU) in the next webinar of the Partnership for Patients-National Priorities Partnership (NPP) Patient Safety Webinar Series. The webinar, “Reducing Infections in the Intensive Care Unit,” will focus on practical tools that hospitals and clinicians can use to reduce the occurrence of infections in care settings.
As part of an ongoing series hosted by NPP—which is convened by the National Quality Forum (NQF)—and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the interactive webinar will take place on August 3 from 2:00 – 3:30 pm ET. Advance registration for the event is recommended and is now available online.
“Dr. Pronovost’s extensive experience in this field, particularly the introduction of an intensive care checklist protocol that has resulted in dramatic declines in hospital-acquired infections, will allow him to provide an unparalleled viewpoint into this topic,” said Janet Corrigan, PhD, MBA, president and CEO of the National Quality Forum. “We are very pleased to have him share his expertise with participants in this event."
Along with panelists Helen Macfie, PharmD, FABC, senior vice president, Performance Improvement, Memorial Medical Care Centers; Michael Klompas, MD, MPH, associate hospital epidemiologist, Brigham and Women’s Hospital; Victoria Nahum, executive director, Safe Care Campaign; and moderator Steven Findlay, MPH, NPP Partner and former co-chair of the NPP Safety Workgroup, Dr. Pronovost will share his insights on how to reduce the occurrence of many common infections in the ICU, including central line-associated bloodstream infection, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, and ventilator-associated pneumonia. The effective use of prevention tools in the ICU, such as the one-page checklist developed by Dr. Pronovost and best practices for engaging of the entire care team, will also be discussed.
“In order to effectively reduce the incidence of infection in the ICU, all members of the care team must be accountable and feel empowered to provide the best care possible. Close and constant collaboration from the entire team is essential to the successful implementation of a system of care,” said Dr. Pronovost. “This webinar will provide participants with a number of tools that can help them create a safer ICU environment for all patients.”
