NQF Hires New Vice President for External Affairs

Washington, DC (June 8, 2011) – The National Quality Forum (NQF) welcomes Ann Greiner as its new vice president of external affairs.  Ms. Greiner joins NQF from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), where for nearly five years she was the vice president of policy.

As part of NQF’s growing communications and external relations team, Ms. Greiner will focus on strengthening relationships between NQF and all of those who have a role in improving healthcare quality, particularly groups that rely on NQF’s work to accomplish their own mission and Congressional policymakers charged with setting national direction.

“We take seriously our responsibility to help educate the external world on the full set of NQF activities so organizations can fully and meaningfully engage with us in improving quality,” said Janet Corrigan, PhD, MBA, president and CEO of NQF.  “Ann’s solid healthcare background, deep relationships with the provider community, and proven track record of working in the federal policy arena make her an ideal addition to the NQF staff.”

During her time at ABIM, Ms. Greiner built a policy team to help establish both the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Medical Specialties’ (ABMS) visibility and influence at the federal policy level.  While there, her team’s efforts resulted in the inclusion of legislative language in the Affordable Care Act recognizing the important roles of specialty certifying boards in the area of accountability as well as Federal support for the development of Board assessment tools.

Before working with ABIM, Ms. Greiner acted as a consultant to a number of institutions, including Institute for Healthcare Improvement, Harvard University, Institute of Medicine, National Quality Forum, and others. She also has held senior positions at The Institute of Medicine, National Academies; The Center for Studying Health System Change; and The National Committee for Quality Assurance.

Ms. Greiner received her BA at Hobart & William Smith Colleges and her master’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She has been published in multiple healthcare journals and has presented at numerous meetings of national healthcare groups.

“I look forward to joining NQF at this exciting and dynamic time in healthcare and health policy,” said Ms. Greiner. “NQF’s work connects all healthcare stakeholders who, working together, can truly improve patient care. It’s an inspirational mission and one I am thrilled to help advance.”

The National Quality Forum (NQF) operates under a three-part mission to improve the quality of American healthcare by:

  • building consensus on national priorities and goals for performance improvement and working in partnership to achieve them;
  •  endorsing national consensus standards for measuring and publicly reporting on performance; and
  •   promoting the attainment of national goals through education and outreach programs.
