National Voluntary Consensus Standards for Prevention and Care of Venous Thromboembolism: Policy, Preferred Practices, and Initial Performance Measures 

The report presents a statement of organizational policy that identifies specific domains of venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention and care, key characteristics of preferred practices, and two measures for VTE prophylaxis for surgery patients. Taken together, the statement of policy and key characteristics of preferred practices provide a framework within which a set of performance measures can be identified and developed.
