New York, New York, July 6, 1999 - The Governance Committee of the National Forum for Health Care Quality Measurement and Reporting (Quality Forum) welcomes candidates for two open seats on the Board of Directors. The Board will provide direction and oversight for the Quality Forum's scope of activities in health care quality measurement, dissemination, and application. A full statement describing a profile for the Board of Directors and a list of the current members of the Board appears on this website.
Candidates should have the qualifications set forth in the statement, "Criteria for Board Members," on this website. In addition, the Board encourages candidates who would bring: (1) perspective and experience in state government in using information on health care quality to purchase health care, to promote improvement and accountability, or to advance public health; or (2) experience and responsibility for improving quality at a health care facility, system, group practice, or health plan. The Governance Committee welcomes candidates who would provide geographic, gender, and racial diversity.

Collectively, the members of the Board of Directors of the National Forum for Health Care Quality Measurement and Reporting (Quality Forum) shall have the leadership, expertise, credibility, diversity, and integrity to develop and implement a national strategy for health care quality measurement and reporting. The Board of Directors shall also have the stature, commitment, and experience to launch a new national organization and to fulfill the tasks set forth in the Quality Forum mission statement.
The Board of Directors must develop broad support for the Quality Forum among diverse sectors, including consumers of health care, public (federal and state) and private purchasers, providers (health plans, hospitals, and professionals), and quality improvement organizations. The Board members must be able to give the Quality Forum national visibility and credibility, and to advocate effectively for the Quality Forum as it builds consensus and support among the many communities concerned about quality improvement, measurement, and reporting.
The Board of Directors shall have the leadership, experience, and expertise to tackle the technical and policy dimensions of its mission. In particular, the Board shall have the capacity to direct and evaluate activities to achieve the tasks listed in the mission statement. Collectively, the Board of Directors shall have expertise in the following areas: business, consumer education, health care delivery, health services research, and quality improvement, measurement, and reporting.
The Board of Directors shall have the diversity appropriate for an organization that will exercise national leadership.
The Board of Directors shall be balanced, open to new ideas, and eager to foster innovation and change. The Board shall have the capacity to work together to forge consensus on issues the Quality Forum will face.
