Measure Maintenance

Project Status: Completed

NQF-Endorsed Measure Maintenance Review
Current Activity: The member comment period closed on November 16, 2009; Public comments closed on November 9, 2009.

As an endorsing body, NQF is responsible for maintaining the endorsement of the consensus standards (measures). Every three years after endorsement, a measure is re-evaluated against NQF’s endorsement criteria to determine if endorsement should be continued.

At the time of the 3-year maintenance review, the measure steward completes a measure maintenance form demonstrating that the measure continues to meet NQF’s endorsement criteria. Information is provided regarding any modifications in the measure specifications, current evidence supporting the measure focus, use of the measure since the last endorsement, performance scores on the measure demonstrating performance gaps or improvement, updated testing, and feasibility issues. Additionally, NQF obtains feedback on stakeholders’ experiences with the measure through a public and member comment period.

Measures are subsequently reviewed by members of a multi-stakeholder committee who make recommendations regarding continued endorsement. At the time of 3-year maintenance review, particular emphasis is placed on identification of opportunities for measure harmonization as well as whether or not a measure continues to be considered “best in class.”
