National Voluntary Consensus Standards for Clinicians: Additional Performance Measures, 2008

To date, NQF has endorsed 141 consensus standards focusing on the clinician practice in a wide variety of conditions, including asthma/respiratory disease, bone and joint conditions, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, mental health and substance use, and stroke;  cross-cutting areas such as medication management, geriatrics, emergency care, obesity and prevention, immunization and screening;  specialty areas including cardiac surgery, eye disease, and prenatal care; and patient experience with care instruments.

This draft report presents additional 57 performance measures in the following areas:

  • cancer care;
  • infectious disease;
  • peri-operative care; and
  • measures targeted at non-physician (MD/DO) professionals.

Four Steering Committees evaluated more than 100 candidate measures using the NQF-endorsedTM measure evaluation criteria of importance, scientific soundness, feasibility, and usability.  The measure evaluations and meeting summaries summarizing the Steering Committee deliberations, discussions with measure developers and recommendations are only available for Member review.

The draft report contains an appendix with the measure specifications. Additional technical information is provided: STS risk models; FOTO data collection instrument and AM PAC data collection instrument.
