This second phase of the project seeks to:

  • develop and endorse performance measures to assess the quality of care for persons who have developed or are at risk for venous thromboembolism (VTE) including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE);
  • catalyze the adoption and use of the statement of organizational policy, preferred practices, and performance measures in every applicable care setting.

In October and November of 2007, the Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) and Steering Committee reviewed 8 VTE measures and, having combined two of the measures, recommended 7 for NQF endorsement.
The candidate measures were evaluated against the NQF-endorsed™ criteria of importance, scientific acceptability, feasibility, and usability and recommendations provided.  The measure evaluations and relevant meeting summaries for the TAP and Steering Committees are available for Member review only.
