How does one become a member of the National Quality Forum (NQF)?
Organizations submit a membership application that is reviewed by NQF staff for completeness and submitted via the Governance Committee to the Board of Directors for approval. Following approval and assignment to one of the eight NQF Member Councils, a member is sent an invoice for dues.

Who are Members of the NQF?
Originally conceived at the recommendation of the President’s Advisory Commission on Consumer Protection and Quality in the Healthcare Industry, NQF represents all aspects of the healthcare industry, including consumers and patients; public and private healthcare purchasers; healthcare providers; and research and quality improvement organizations. While individuals may belong to the NQF, only organizational members may vote. As of May 2008, nearly 380 organizations are members of NQF.

Is membership open to individuals?
Interested individuals are encouraged to apply for membership, however, individual members do not vote in the Member Councils. Only people who are not currently employed by an organization eligible for NQF membership may join as an individual. Individual members of NQF receive regular, advance updates on NQF activities; have access to the “Members Only” page on our website; and receive advance copies of selected reports and other documents. Download the Individual Membership Application.

What kind of activities are NQF Members engaged in?
NQF members work collaboratively to improve the quality of American healthcare by setting national priorities and goals for performance improvement, endorsing national consensus standards for measuring and publicly reporting on performance, and promoting the attainment of national goals through education and outreach programs.

NQF also serves as a convenor, holding numerous meetings and conferences throughout the year. These programs provide an opportunity to receive high-level briefings on issues of importance to policy and healthcare quality.

Which Member Council should we belong to?
All organizational members of the NQF belong to one of eight Member Councils, each of which have an elected chair and vice chair. Organizational members of NQF may participate in any of the Member Council discussions, but are permitted to vote only in the Council that they have been assigned to by the Governance Committee. In considering the most appropriate assignment, a determination centers on which Council is most closely aligned with the applicant’s work and/or constituents, members, or mission.

What are the NQF’s dues?
A sliding scale membership dues schedule is available on the second page of the membership application. View the membership cycle.

What do we need to apply for membership?
To apply for membership, please send or fax a completed application and materials that describe the work, purpose, and structure of your organization—e.g., bylaws, annual reports, or articles of incorporation.

How does my organization change its Primary or Executive Contact?
In order to change your organization’s contact information, please complete and forward the Change of Contact Form.

Who should I contact with questions about my membership?
Members with questions about NQF Membership benefits or ongoing activities can call the NQF at 202.783.1300. Or you can e-mail staff at members@qualityforum.org
