• NQF’s prestigious Consumers and Patients for Quality Award recognizes outstanding contributions of individuals and organizations that work to educate and engage individuals, families, and caregivers to advance healthcare quality. Nominations are open through December 2, 2016, and are open exclusively to NQF Members.

    “NQF’s Consumers and Patients for Quality Award celebrates individuals and organizations that put consumers first,” said Kirsten Sloan, vice president for policy, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, chair of the jury panel for NQF’s Consumers and Patients for Quality Award, and a member of NQF’s Board of Directors. “The award recognizes those individuals and organizations that honor the goals and preferences of patients, their families, and caregivers, and help to promote quality and value throughout the healthcare system.”

    Jury panel members include Lisa Freeman, executive director of the Connecticut Center for Patient Safety, and David Longnecker, MD, chief clinical innovations officer of the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care. Both are members of NQF’s National Quality Partners’ Advanced Illness Care Action Team.

    Nominees must be members of NQF and may be individual patient advocates or a nonprofit or corporate patient advocacy group, policy organization, online consumer resource, or other organization dedicated to helping patients and their families gain access to quality healthcare. Nominations should detail how a nominee’s work addresses at least one of the following areas:

    • Work directly with patients or consumers to expand and enhance their ability to evaluate different sources of information about healthcare quality and safety;
    • Use quality measurement as a key tool to track and improve access to high-quality healthcare for all Americans;
    • Demonstrate leadership in advancing the patient or consumer voice in health and healthcare quality.

    Nomination letters, which should be no more than two pages in length, should be emailed as a PDF attachment to Amy Shaw by December 2, 2016. Please include the email address, phone number, organization, and mailing address for both the nominator and the nominee.
