• Patrick Conway, MD, MSc, is acting principal deputy administrator and chief medical officer at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). He leads the Center for Clinical Standards and Quality and the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation at CMS. Previously, Patrick was director of hospital medicine and an associate professor at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. He also was associate VP for outcomes performance, responsible for leading measurement and facilitating improvement of health outcomes across the healthcare system. Previous work also includes serving as chief medical officer at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation. In 2014, Patrick was elected to the Institute of Medicine (IOM), which recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service. He is a practicing pediatric hospitalist. Patrick addressed attendees of NQF’s 2015 Annual Conference on March 24 on the innovations within CMS to achieve greater value and quality in healthcare.
