• Optimizing health information technology (HIT) to support the nation’s move toward a value-based healthcare delivery system is the focus of a new NQF Member network. The Member Network – HIT will bring Members together to learn more about active NQF projects that address HIT usability, from improving the accuracy of quality measurement through improved electronic clinical data standards, to developing guidance around detecting and preventing HIT-related patient safety events.

The adoption and use of HIT is widely viewed as essential to the transformation of healthcare and presents many new opportunities to improve patient care and safety, as well as to help control costs. But HIT use also can create new hazards that lead to HIT-related safety events. An NQF committee is assessing the current environment related to measurement of HIT-related safety issues and is developing a comprehensive framework to mitigate risk and advance measurement to improve health IT-related patient safety.

Members who participate in the Member Network – HIT will receive special communications and invitations to topical educational and interactive events. The network’s activities kicked off on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, with an introductory call. Network Members are also invited to participate in an HIT Safety Committee meeting on Tuesday, July 21, 1:00 p.m.to 2:00 p.m. EDT.

The Member Network – HIT is the second network launched this year by NQF. Another network that focuses on renal projects was launched in January.
