NQF Statement on the Institute of Medicine’s Improving Diagnosis in Health Care Report

“Most people will experience at least one inaccurate or delayed diagnosis in their lifetime, sometimes with devastating consequences. Yet diagnostic errors have largely been ignored within the healthcare quality and patient safety movements, largely because there are few good ways to measure the occurrence and severity of these errors.

NQF applauds the Institute of Medicine for calling attention to this serious healthcare issue and for furthering an important dialogue to improve the accuracy of diagnosis. We hope that this report will be a catalyst for critically needed measures in this area.”
