NQF Statement on March 2016 Health Affairs Blog about Healthcare Measurement

“It’s true that meaningful healthcare measurement means different things to different groups, but as Siegel et al. note in Health Affairs, we all should agree that measures that matter are those that improve people’s care and their health. At the National Quality Forum, we’re working to make measurement more effective by streamlining and aligning measures through our endorsement process and annual recommendations that NQF makes to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on measures for use in public programs. We are also working to define select, core measure sets for key areas of healthcare practice with the Centers for Medicare & Medicare Services and America’s Health Insurance Plans. At the same time, we’re facilitating the work of others to fill measurement gaps in important areas of healthcare through NQF’s Measure Incubator. These multistakeholder efforts are moving the field toward measurement that truly matters in improving care.”
