Patient Outcomes All-Cause Readmissions Expedited Review 2011

Date of Publication:
JUL 2012
Associated Project:
Readmissions Project
Abstract
Approximately 18 percent of hospital admissions by Medicare beneficiaries result in a readmission within 30 days. These readmissions amount to $15 billion in spending by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services with a substantial proportion spent on readmissions that are potentially preventable. This report focuses on the evaluation of three measures – evaluated under NQF’s expedited consensus development process – for public reporting/accountability and quality improvement that specifically address cross-cutting (not condition-specific) all-cause readmissions to hospitals.
