Improving Attribution Models
Abstract
Attribution is a methodology to assign patients, encounters, or episodes of care to a healthcare provider or practitioner. It attempts to determine a patient-provider relationship for the purposes of determining accountability for a person’s care. This report builds on NQF’s 2017 guidance on the definition of an attribution model to provide guidance on the design of an attribution model and to provide a foundation for future multistakeholder review of attribution models. In addition, the report explores a set of key attribution challenges, contributes to the development and dissemination of best practices, and spells out the key considerations for evaluating attribution models.
