Neurological disorders, such as dementia, negatively affect millions of patients, families, and caregivers in the United States. Moreover, the healthcare costs for treatments, rehabilitation, and lost wages of these conditions add up to billions of dollars every year. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, with an estimated 5 million Americans living with the disease. During the Spring 2019 measure evaluation cycle, NQF convened a multi-stakeholder Standing Committee to evaluate a one measure for maintenance endorsement. The measure called for all patients with a dementia diagnosis to have cognition assessments at least once within a 12-month period, regardless of age. The Neurology Standing Committee re-endorsed the measure. The endorsed measure did not receive any appeals.
