Abstract
The NQF Renal Committee concerns itself with measures relating to chronic kidney disease (CKD), a condition affecting over 36 million adults in the US. The US continues to spend significant resources on care and treatment of CKD as net costs associated with treatment continue to rise. Considering the high mortality rates, high healthcare utilization and costs associated with CKD, the need to focus on quality measures for patients with CKD is particularly important. The Renal Standing Committee convened on January 30, 2020 and evaluated one measure undergoing maintenance review against NQF’s standard evaluation criteria—a measure associated with blood transfusion rates in patients receiving hemodialysis. The Standing Committee recommended the measure for continued endorsement. The Consensus Standards Approval Committee (CSAC) upheld the Committee’s recommendation.
