Abstract
The National Quality Forum Renal Standing Committee is responsible for the management of a section of NQF’s portfolio of endorsed measures, especially those related to chronic kidney disease—or renal disease—a condition affecting nearly 15 percent of the US adult population. Left untreated, CKD can progress to end stage renal disease and a host of other health complications, such as cardiovascular disease, hyperlipidemia, anemia, and metabolic bone disease. According to the most recent US Renal Data System Annual Data Report from 2019, the total Medicare spend associated with CKD in 2017 exceeded $120 billion. The Renal Standing Committee convened on June 16 and 18, 2020 to evaluate three measures undergoing maintenance review against NQF’s standard evaluation criteria. Two measures were ultimately endorsed and one measure was not.
