Abstract
The National Quality Forum’s (NQF) portfolio of Patient Safety Measures targets various aspects of patient safety across healthcare settings. During the fall 2020 measure evaluation cycle, the Patient Safety Standing Committee evaluated six measures undergoing maintenance endorsement review against NQF’s standard evaluation criteria. These measures focused on medication reconciliation, safe medication prescribing in older adults, risk-adjusted inpatient mortality for pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and preventing hospital harm. Five measures were endorsed by the Standing Committee and the Consensus Standards Approval Committee (CSAC) in this cycle of work; however, due to a voting error on the validity criterion, #0097: Medication Reconciliation Post-Discharge was stated as “passing on validity”, when in fact, the vote score was Consensus Not Reached. The Patient Safety Standing Committee will re-vote on validity and the overall suitability for endorsement during the spring 2022 cycle.
