Surgery 2017-2018Abstract
The National Quality Forum’s (NQF) portfolio of Surgery measures targets perioperative safety; general surgery, and a range of specialties, including cardiac, cardiothoracic, colorectal, ocular, orthopedic, urogynecology, and vascular surgery. During the fall 2021 measure evaluation cycle, the Surgery Standing Committee evaluated one newly submitted measure against NQF’s standard evaluation criteria: a patient-reported outcome-based performance measure focused on providing information to patients and clinicians about clinician and clinician group-level, risk-standardized patient-reported outcomes, such as pain and functional status, following elective primary Total Hip Arthroplasty and/or Total Knee Arthroplasty (THA and TKA). The Standing Committee recommended the measure for endorsement and the Consensus Standards Approval Committee (CSAC) subsequently upheld the Standing Committee’s recommendation to endorse the measure.
