Overview

The Health Information Technology Advisory Committee (HITAC) is a standing committee of the NQF Board of Directors. The committee, approved by the board of directors in 2009, provides specific expertise on NQF’s HIT projects.

Charge to HITAC

  • Provide guidance to support the transition to electronic performance measurement;
     
  • Provide multi-stakeholder input and collaboration among measure developers, electronic health record (EHR) vendors, and users on best practices to support performance measurement, reporting, and improvement;
     
  • Provide expert input for the Health IT infrastructure needed for electronic performance measurement, including the data standards needed to support data capture and quality reporting, consistent representation and harmonization of data elements and quality measures, and a forum for multi-stakeholder input.

Composition

Members of HITAC represent a wide range of healthcare stakeholders, including consumers, providers, purchasers, suppliers, and public and community healthcare organizations. The Committee also includes non-voting federal liaisons from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Indian Health Services, the Office of the National Coordinator, and the Veterans Health Administration. Members of HITAC are eligible to serve three-year terms. To stagger the future appointment cycle, inaugural HITAC members will serve one-, two-, or three-year terms.
