2009 is the most significant year for healthcare reform in decades. While the specifics and implications of reform are not yet clear, one thing is certain: the healthcare landscape is poised to change dramatically, creating new opportunities to provide more Americans with appropriate, high-quality care.

Both the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and President Obama’s Budget Proposal dedicate significant funding for long-term healthcare reform. Healthcare leaders from across the country are working with lawmakers to ensure reforms address important elements including health information technology, measurement and payment, and alignment with all six of the National Priorities.

NQF’s Fall Policy Conference, Beyond Measure: The Quality Imperative in Healthcare Reform, brought together policy experts and senior executives to discuss how the final legislation coming out of Congress will impact performance, payment, and care, and how participants can get involved. Keynote speakers included Nancy-Ann DeParle, White House Office of Health Reform Director, Joanne Silberner, NPR health policy correspondent, Mary Wakefield, Health Resources and Services Administration Administrator, and Glenn M. Hackbarth, MedPAC Chair.

The 2009 John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Awards will be presented during the conference at a luncheon on October 15, 2009.
