NQF Conference Spotlights the Quality Imperative in Healthcare Reform
National Quality Forum's (NQF) 10th Annual Conference “Beyond Measure: The Quality Imperative in Healthcare Reform" will bring together hundreds of healthcare leaders during a critical crossroads in American healthcare. All bills now before Congress include quality improvement provisions with lasting implications for the kind of care patients receive. In addition, an infusion of funding for health information technology represents a powerful new force for coordinating care, measuring performance across settings, and providing vital information about each patient and the latest, most effective treatments.
WHAT: National Quality Forum's “Beyond Measure: The Quality Imperative in Healthcare Reform” (Complete conference agenda below.)
WHO: Hundreds of leaders in American healthcare representing diverse groups — healthcare consumers, purchasers, practitioners, and policy makers throughout the public and private health sectors
Keynote speakers include:
• Nancy-Ann DeParle, Counselor to the President and Director of the White House Office of Health Reform, will share the latest updates on the Obama Administration's efforts to enact reform legislation this year.
• David Blumenthal, National Coordinator for Health Information Technology at the Department of Health and Human Services, will discuss progress in implementing funding for Health Information Technology that was provided under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
• Glenn M. Hackbarth, MedPAC Chair, will outline the role of payment innovation in accomplishing healthcare reform and will highlight emerging models to help move from an outdated fee-for-service payment system, to one that rewards quality.
• Joanne Silberner, NPR health policy correspondent, will offer a news media perspective on the healthcare reform debate and prospects for action.
WHEN: Wednesday, October 14 from 5 - 6 PM and Thursday, October 15, from 8:30 AM – 5 PM
WHERE: Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, National Harbor, Maryland
WHY: While the outcome of federal healthcare legislation is uncertain, it will no doubt have implications for every facet of the healthcare system. The fragmented nature of American healthcare and an archaic payment system that rewards volume over value perpetuate disparate and disappointing results. Quality is at the center of increasing access, reducing costs, and serving American families' health and wellness needs. Health information technology has the potential to coordinate care, reduce errors, and provide more timely access to vital information.
The National Quality Forum works to raise standards for healthcare performance and to make high-quality care commonplace for every patient. NQF has set national priorities and goals for performance improvement, endorsed national consensus standards for measuring and publicly reporting on performance, and promoted the attainment of national goals through education and outreach programs.
