Dr. Christine Cassel and Four Other NQF Board Members Named to Modern Healthcare’s List of Most Influential Physicians

WASHINGTON, DC –Incoming President and CEO of the National Quality Forum (NQF), Christine K. Cassel, MD, has been named among the 50 Most Influential Physician Executives in Healthcare for 2013. Joining Dr. Cassel on the list are four members of the NQF Board of Directors.

Dr. Cassel (ranked 9th) will join NQF in July after leading the American Board of Internal Medicine as President and CEO for ten years. Modern Healthcare cited the work of the Choosing Wisely® campaign, an ABIM initiative launched under Dr. Cassel's leadership, as one of the most important quality initiatives of the last year.

NQF board members included on the list are Patrick Conway, MD, chief medical officer, CMS; director, CMS' Center for Clinical Standards and Quality; Thomas R. Frieden, MD, MPH, director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention); Samuel R. Nussbaum, MD, executive vice president and chief medical officer, WellPoint; and Bruce Siegel, MD, MPH, President and CEO, National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems.

Co-sponsored by Modern Healthcare and Modern Physician, leaders included on the list are chosen based on reader nominations and votes, and the expert opinions of the senior editors at Modern Healthcare and Modern Physician. The full list, in order of ranking, is available online.
