NQF Statement on PCORI-funded Effort to Amplify Patient Involvement in Healthcare Quality Improvement

"The National Quality Forum is pleased to work with the National Health Council (NHC) on a PCORI-funded initiative announced today to create a healthcare quality curriculum for patients. NQF is technical advisor role in this NHC project adds to our growing portfolio of efforts at NQF to better engage patients in measurement, and in general, their health and their care.

The patient voice is critical in healthcare performance measurement to drive meaningful, patient-centered healthcare improvement and system-level transformation. Through the NQF Measure Incubator, we are facilitating the work of other organizations to develop patient-reported outcome measures such as pain and function, and rely on the critically important input of patients. Patient input is vital at every step of this work.

The NHC’s efforts will undoubtedly help consumers better understand the importance of measurement and encourage people to have a greater say in the development of measures that reflect what matters most to them in their health and their care."
