Final Activity: The Board maintained endorsement of this measure. Press Release
Overview
An ad hoc review may be conducted on an endorsed standard at any time with adequate justification. The requestor is required to provide evidence supporting that the measure focus has changed; that implementation of the measure may result in unintended consequences; or that there has been a material change to the measure.
NQF conducted an ad hoc review for the previously endorsed measure, Surgery Patients with Appropriate Hair Removal (Endorsed measure: #0301).
About this Review
Reason for Review
Within a letter submitted to NQF, concerns were expressed about the widespread application of the NQF-endorsed measure, Surgery Patients with Appropriate Hair Removal (#0301). The letter cites that this measure “is supported by very limited evidence and [is] inappropriately generalized across surgical specialties.”
NQF has been requested to re-consider endorsement of this measure.

NQF conducted ad hoc reviews for three endorsed measures. The measure, Surgery Patients with Appropriate Hair Removal (Endorsed measure: #0301), was under review through September 23, 2010.
Technical experts reviewed the evidence and any additional information provided by the ad hoc review requestor and measure steward. The technical experts will provide input to the Consensus Standards Approval Committee (CSAC) after the public and member comment periods.
At its meeting July 14- 15, the CSAC voted to continue endorsement of measure #0301 - Surgery Patients with Appropriate Hair Removal. The decision will be sent to the Board of Directors for ratification.
The public had 30 days to appeal the final decision to endorse a voluntary consensus standard. The appeals period closed on October 26, 2010. No appeals were filed during this time.
