National Voluntary Consensus Standards for Patient Safety Measures: A Consensus Report

Date of Publication:
JUN 2012
Associated Project:
Patient Safety Measures
Abstract
Americans are exposed to more preventable medical errors than patients in other industrialized nations; medical errors within the U.S. healthcare system occur every day in the tens of thousands and potentially hundreds of thousands. NQF’s Patient Safety Measures project solicited measures to fill gap areas and to address environment-specific issues with the highest potential leverage for improvement. This final report combines all of the recommended patient safety measures focusing specifically on healthcare-associated infections, urinary tract infections, surgical site infections, bloodstream infections, and radiation dosing.
