Abstract
The NQF Report on 2017 Activities to Congress and the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) summarizes the work NQF accomplished in 2017, funded by Congress through HHS and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, to improve access to and quality of care for the nation’s 58 million Medicare beneficiaries. The report showcases NQF’s critical role in building public-and private-sector consensus on healthcare improvement strategies as well as in endorsing performance measures—and identifying areas where measures are needed—for improvement. Highlights of the 2017 report include NQF’s work to address national healthcare priorities such as quality measurement for rural providers and disparities reduction, NQF’s foundational work in emerging areas of quality measurement, and measure endorsement of meaningful, high-value measures focused on driving the healthcare system to be more responsive to patient and family needs, improve care for highly prevalent conditions, and foster better care coordination.
